He arrived in America with two good friends of his and fellows villagers Gregory and Giannis, leaving behind his great love, Christina. His wife, who after he would put his life in order, he would take her with him to make their dreams come true. Meanwhile she would stay with his mother, Vagelio in the village, helping with the agricultrural jobs in their land. While he was staying in America he was betrayed by his friend and fellow villager Gregory, he works in the railways and ends up creating his own small company close to the office of the greek publisher. But who was this man, the greek publisher? How they meet and get to know eachther and even more, trust eachother? Before making his big decision to return to his homeland, Nicholas gives him a selection of his poems. A couple of years before 1920 he began his journey to return to Greece over ocean, with his new love, Maria and her brother Tony, his new Italian friend who stood up for him in his hard times of his life, when he was in danger to die in an accident on the railway. During the trip he will remember his whole life and with heartache, he will hope for the best that he would meet his childhood home back in his village.
Before he left, Christina swore to him that she would write to him on a daily basis but he never received any of her letters. He would write to her often... After a while he stopped.. He would still write but never send anymore... He was scarred to send her any letters since she never answered... Only his mother answered... And when he asked her how Christina is, his mother wouldn't answer. What would this silence mean? For sure she would have forgotten about him, she couldn't stand the loneliness and left... So she didn't love him anymore?
Dark and cruel isolation, how easily you divide people
The narrator will unfold slowly with the narration of the story, through letters we will find amongst the manuscripts of Nicolas…
