Some moments leave an indelible mark on our souls. We experienced one such moment on 4 September 2026, at the world premiere of the multimedia opera The Eternal Song of the Four Heavens-Lafcadio Hearn, held in the atmospheric Japanese Garden of Water on Thessaloniki’s New Waterfront. The event was organised by JTI as part of the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair, with Japan as the Honoured Country. It was a great joy to write music for this work and the libretto by Effie Panagopoulou. Through music, song, narration, theatre and video art, the audience followed Lafcadio Hearn, known in Japan as Koizumi Yakumo, across places that shaped his life: Greece, Ireland, New Orleans and Japan.
Outstanding performances by Nikos Spanatis, Ada Athanasopoulou and Chrisa Roma, together with musicians Stavros Petsalakis, Stavros Parginos and Alexandros Despotidis. |
